Fish Trap Lake Park

First of all, a helpful tip is don’t follow Google Maps to get here. It will lead you to the entrance of an assisted living facility. I would suggest searching for 2121 Fish Trap Road; you can park in the lot for the Dallas Housing Authority. This area is located just behind LG Pinkston High School, off North Hampton and Singleton.

There is a mostly-paved path, but regular visitors have created a path of their own. We walked around the entire lake, which only took about 30 minutes or so. Looking at the map, it looks like there is another part of trail that we didn’t follow which takes you to Kingsbridge Park. If it hasn’t been muddy, we might have also explored a little hill just off the path. I also noticed a playground across the way that I want to visit once the parks are open again.

I don’t know if the 5 or so people we saw caught any fish, but the most action we saw were two HUGE fish swirling around each other in the water.

We also so our fair share of birds, including a cormorant, and lots of skittish turtles. There were a few trees that were wrapped in chicken wire that leads me to believe there might be or have been beavers around the lake.

Unfortunately there was a lot of trash around the lake; picking up the trash would make for a good group project in the future.

Also, in case you are wondering, anyone under 17 can fish without a license, according to Texas Park and Wildlife.

Length: 1.4 miles (but we only walked around the lake), trail map can be found here
