Skyline Trail: Southern Segment

As we were finishing up a new-to-us hike last weekend, I ran into a friend who told me about an entrance to the Trinity Trail near Colorado and I-35. When we were searching for an entrance to the trail, we found Eloise Lundy Rec Center and Park. There is a baseball field, basketball court and playground.

We parked in the Living Waters Family Church parking lot, since that was the closest parking lot I could find to the road up to the trail.

With a little googling, this part of the trail around the Trinity River is called Skyline Trail: Southern Segment. If you love wildflowers, check it out before it gets too hot. While our walk was a little longer than what my son wanted to do, the trail was super easy because it is a very wide, paved path. Really great for kids who are starting to bike or want to use a scooter on a path.

I was hoping to see a variety of birds since we were near the Trinity River, but in this area of the Trinity, you aren’t very close to water and there wasn’t a lot of water when we visited. So take some time to enjoy the variety of flora instead.

I’m not a huge fan of out and back trails, so I decided to trek through some flowers (sorry flowers) and take the upper, dirt trail back. Taking the upper trail also gives you better views of the Trinity River.

This trail also gives you some great views of downtown.

If you are up for a longer walk or run, this trail eventually meets up with the Santa Fe Trestle Trail.

Length: We walked 1.7 miles round trip, google map, trail map.
