Stevens Golf Course

I live in the King’s Highway neighborhood and often pass Stevens Golf Course a few times a week without giving it much thought. While I do enjoy swinging a golf club, I can never predict which direction the ball will go, so you’re more likely to find me at a miniature golf course rather than an adult course.

However, I’ve seen photos on social media of friends exploring the public golf course since the city closed down the park for its intended use. It has now become a park for pedestrians over the past couple of weeks.

The first few times we went, we started our walk at the clubhouse off N. Montclair Ave., and stayed on the paved trail. A few weeks ago we saw only a few other people, but now I think more people are taking advantage of the wide-open space.

In our most recent voyage, we parked near Annie Stevens Park on Plymouth Road at the intersection of North Oak Cliff Boulevard and set off.

Have you found the tunnel that connects you to hole 5 and 6 on the other side of Hampton? It’s like walking through a portal that brings you into a new world.

What about those sand traps? They brought so much joy to my son that we hit at least 4 in one day. Burying his feet in the sand never seems to get old.

We have also recently noticed signs around each hole to please stay off the greens. Employees are still working hard to take care of the golf course, so when it does re-open the courses are in good condition. So while pedestrians can take full advantage of this green space, please keep this public park nice and stay off the area where the holes should be.

Length: I think the entire golf course is 3.5 miles; on our recent visit we walked 1.9 miles. link to golf course
